ATCA hosted its 34th Conference in Sydney from Tuesday 31 October to Thursday 2 November at the Mercure in Sydney. This included site visits to ATCA member organisations on Tuesday 31 October, followed by the Conference at the Mercure on the following two days: Wednesday 1 November and Thursday 2 November.

The focus areas for the 34th ATCA Conference were: Inclusion, Innovation, Impact, Sustainability. These focused on the celebration of Therapeutic Communities now and into the future.

Inclusion

valuing the diversity of populations of the people and communities that TCs and residential and rehabilitation programs serve.

Innovation

ATCA members with innovative approaches - residential and non-residential programs.

Impact

influencing the wider environment and impact in the lives of the people and communities that our members serve.

Sustainability

research, resources, social capital - sharing with others, informing practice and encouraging inclusion, innovation and impact.

The ATCA conference brought together professionals working in Therapeutic Communities, researchers and clinicians in the Alcohol and other Drug (AOD) filed and affiliated areas. Therapeutic Communities (TCs) and other Residential Rehabilitation Services (RRS) are an integral part of a comprehensive response to alcohol and other drug issues in our community, nationally and internationally. The ATCA Conference reflected this, with a broad appeal to those working in the field of addiction, mental health, justice, and child protection. The conference addressed issues of significant importance around alcohol and other drug use, comorbidity, adult, family and youth populations in community and correctional settings, and the health of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, Mãori and Pasifika peoples.
