How can we help you?
– a defining moment of insight and clarity where healing begins and lives are reclaimed.
Watershed can help you by providing a safe and healthy environment where you’ll be assisted to identify issues that lead into self-destructive behaviours and learn how to recognise and introduce positive change into your life.
We provide a residential service for alcohol and other drug (AOD) detoxification and rehabilitation as well as a longer term supported accommodation service at our ‘Carinya House’. Watershed also operates a non-residential Day Program which offers flexible services for those seeking a non-residential program that can fit with work, study, legal or family commitments, or while waiting for a bed at a residential service.
Our quality accredited, evidence-based and client centred holistic treatment services include the only Residential Withdrawal Management Program (Detox) in the Illawarra which is supported by a four week structured residential rehabilitation program where our clients receive 24 hour support and supervision and participate in our Healthy Lifestyle Program that offers yoga, tai chi, exercise, meditation and relaxation; a Therapeutic Group Program that provides a structured harm minimization group program covering relapse prevention, anger management, conflict resolution, healthy relationships and self-esteem; a Living Skills Program that provides budgeting, shopping, cooking, gardening, home duties, first aid and personal responsibility; and a Health Promotion and Harm Prevention Program and Case Managed support including treatment, counselling and aftercare.
Watershed’s aftercare program includes supported accommodation through our transition or halfway program at ‘Carinya House’ and includes referral and shared care options. Carinya House is an additional 6 bed, longer-term (3-12 months) accommodation program that provides continued access to relevant treatments and allows a gradual transition back into the community for clients who have completed a residential program.
The non-residential Day Program is a flexible option that offers counselling, case management, education and therapeutic groups as well as advocacy and shared care referrals. This program is designed for those who are not yet ready for residential rehabilitation, or are currently waiting on admission to a residential service, have other work and family commitments, are exiting correctional services or may have existing legal issues in relation to drug and or alcohol misuse (such as probation and parole, MERIT, Court System) or are currently on a pharmacotherapy treatment program (such as methadone, buprenorphine or suboxone treatment) and wish to access additional drug and alcohol support – perhaps with a view to reducing dependence on these substances. Individual attention is critical, so we ensure every client receives valuable one-on-one time in addition to the development of an individual treatment plan to meet their unique needs.

Working with partners
Watershed has partnerships and relationships with a wide range of other health and community services in order to provide integrated care for individual clients as they move through their treatment journey. As substance misuse can potentially impact a client’s family, work, housing, general and mental health as well as a client having involvement with legal services and other agencies, Watershed aims to be of assistance in all these areas during service delivery through having good relationships with other agencies and referral pathways in and out of treatment. Some of these include:
- ISLHD (The Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District), ORANA, IDAS (Illawarra Drug and Alcohol Service), AMS, FACS (Dept of Family and Community Services).
- The State Debt Recovery Office
- Referral options such as refuges, government housing, Wollongong Women’s Housing, Community Mental Health, Wollongong Women’s information Service, Violence Against Neglect (domestic violence), Community Support groups, Catholic Care (parenting groups), Wesley Mission (financial / gambling counselling), NEAMI, Richmond PRA
- Agreements with Corrective Services Wollongong and Legal Aid Office for referrals into treatment and ongoing contact with the Port Kembla Court, Magistrate Co-ordinator and other Magistrates
