Shanty Creek is about an hour’s drive west of Cairns. You can undertake an assessment in Cairns and we can assist you with transport to Shanty Creek if required.
Shanty Creek is a live-in rehabilitation centre for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 18 years and over, whose lives are affected by the misuse of alcohol and other drugs. Located in a beautiful farming area in the Atherton Tableland and run by Lives Lived Well, Shanty Creek offers holistic treatment and cultural understanding. We support small groups of up to 20 people through a comprehensive program that takes 6-9 months to complete, depending on individual progress. You may be referred by health, welfare and community organisations, but you can also contact us directly. If you receive unemployment benefits, you will be expected to contribute an amount towards the cost of the program.
