Yaandina Family Centre has operated in the Pilbara for over 40 years. Yaandina began life in Roebourne as a volunteer organisation run by local nurses, nuns and likeminded community people who cared for children in need. Today Yaandina employs over 95 people (29 Aboriginal) and delivers services from a local base in areas of Youth Services, Family Services, Home and Community Care, Aged Care and drug and alcohol services, including the Pilbara’s only drug and alcohol rehabilitation centre.
The Turner River Centre provides a facility in the Pilbara that allows individuals who
have successfully completed a detoxification process from drugs and/or alcohol to recover from their addictions.
It is a 24 bed facility that operates 24hrs a day 365 days a year and uses the Therapeutic Community (TC) model for treatment and addiction recovery that includes mental and physical healing.
Under the TC model residents are required to help each other and work and leisure activities are based on skill development, team work and the community’s wellbeing. 24-hour support is provided and care and support plans are individually tailored for each resident’s best outcome and wellbeing. Families are able to visit following a settling in period.
A referral is required and needs to be accompanied by a medical assessment.
These can be requested from a doctor or the community drug & alcohol counsellors at Mission Australia and various other agencies throughout Western Australia.
